Watford Away Lost 2 – 1

Watford was an early outing for the new second kit: resembling a Pompey shirt that someone had been sick over was bad enough, but close examination of the article as worn by undiscerning fans showed the worst aspect to be a pointless silver badge. At least it didn’t look as bad from the top row of the stand, and a side without Fellows (manager’s choice) and Jander (still injured) were going nicely as well, although a fine attacking move would have counted for nothing as Dobbin was offside before Larin failed to connect with his cross. Then suddenly we were a goal down as our own Stephens somehow managed to play in Bravo who still had a lot to do, but finished well. That changed the momentum but for a second time Saints had only themselves to blame when conceding again; this time the man most to blame was Manning with a misplaced pass, but surely someone should have taken control of the situation to challenge Nabizada before the teenager found the net from a very tight angle – and should Peretz have done better as well? Watford won’t have spent the half time break worrying about their three cautions (six in all) while Saints desperately needed something to get back into the game: Larin gave it to them by taking advantage of a neat assist by Bragg. That signalled the end for Dobbin who wasn’t really part of this particular race, while Larin stayed on past his usual hour and forced a save from Ravaglia before making way for Mubama to have an undistinguished debut; meanwhile Azaz, on for Dobbin, was behind much good play by the Saints front line. Manning, who had mostly been found out defensively, made a fine last ditch tackle to keep his side in the game and his long pass should have set up an equaliser, but Harwood-Bellis failed to take the best opportunity of the match. Peretz stayed upfield for three added time corners, but Southampton’s crossing throughout had been poor and we left with no change to the four point deficit.

An executive decision for LSSC Man of the Match while technical problems with X are addressed!

9. Cyle Larin, thanks to the goal.
