Carabao Cup Round 2 Away Cardiff Won 3 – 5

Saints made  11 changes to the team from the Forest defeat, with 6 players making their full first team debuts, and joined by two other debutants late in the game. These changes did not upset the team and they soon took the lead through Fernandes, and were looking comfortable until Colwell scored the equaliser with a tremendous shot from outside the area, which went in off the underside of the bar. However Amo-Ameyo soon put Saints ahead again and we were looking comfortable at half time. Soon after the restart Lumley pushed a cross onto Edwards that rebounded into the net. Within 15 minutes Archer put us ahead again only for Cardiff to equalise again. At this stage Cardiff were making the better chances, but the introduction of Lallana and Bella-Kotchap steadied the ship. The game seemed to be set for the lottery of  penalties, when in added time Bree scored an absolute screamer of a half Volley from outside the box, and Archer rounded things off with another good finish. So an eventful, thrilling and entertaining game, with some cracking goals by both teams, with a few of these players showing they are worthy of consideration for playing in Premier League.

Man of the Match

Fernandes did well, scoring the opener and setting up Archer for his first goal, Dibling had a great game and had assists for two of the goals, and in his cameo role Lallana was excellent, but top man for me was Archer, whose turn and finish for his first goal was brilliant and also showed coolness in his finish for the fifth goal
