London Saints

Saints Edged Out in Darts Thriller… Again!

This was one of our best performances of the season as the valiant four (yes, only four) of us nearly shocked unbeaten Burnley (six wins from six). It was the third time this season that we had been at 5-5 with all to play for and the third time that we have flunked it. Nevertheless everybody played a part.

Thanks should go to Burnley for letting us draw players to play two extra singles and one extra pairs.

An opening team victory set us up. Steve Cole/Mick Strickland narrowly lost their pairs as did Steve Grant/John Smith, but Steve C/John pulled the match back to 2-2 when John slotted in x7.

The singles: Steve C showed his class with an opening singles win. Then we had a wobble with Mick, Steve G and John all losing to put us 5-3 down. Mick and Steve G were drawn out as the extra singles players with revenge on their minds. Suitably warmed up, both won to put us at 5-5.

The beer leg and last game was agony. Both teams on a double (us on x3 and Burnley on x1) as we fought for our first win of the season. It was not to be as Burnley prevailed.

A very good night with the Burnley lads who like us, like their beer. A new nickname was born as John was dubbed John ‘Jack in the Box’ Smith (this needs explaining at some other time).

Very unlucky lads and here is hoping that we can get a full team next time out. The defeat does put us above Blackpool into 5th. place.

The stats…

Team – win (Mick x8)
Pairs – Steve C/John (John x7)
Singles – wins: Steve C, Mick, Steve G
