Those of you who were at Lords in June will no doubt have been impressed with the pieces that Chris Arundale supplied for the auction. Well he’s done it again!
Chris has managed to secure some splendid items which will be available via silent auction; thus ensuring maximum time to socialise with our guests. Here’s what you can bid for-

Here is a brief rundown of our guests careers-

Rueben Agboola: 1980-85
Defence. 111 apps – Made debut at Old Trafford with Danny Wallace and part of the 1983-84 runners-up team – also played for Sunderland & Swansea
Represented Nigeria 9 times (although born in Camden)

Mel Blyth: 1974-77
Defence. 121 apps, 6 goals – played in the ’76 FA Cup winning team. 74/75 player of the season.
Started at Scunthorpe before Palace from McMenemy signed him. Returned to Palace on loan before playing for Millwall.
Also played in South Africa, USA & Hong Kong. Worked in building trade.

Jimmy Case: 1985-91
Midfield. 262 apps, 13 goals – signed from Liverpool, won 4 titles, 3 European Cups, 1 Uefa cup, 1 league cup.
Also played for Brighton (2 spells), Bournemouth, Wrexham. Managed Brighton & Bashley. Now works for Radio Merseyside although still living on South Coast

John Christie: 1950-59
Goalkeeper. 209 apps – Scotsman signed from Ayr United. Moved to Walsall in 1959 where he won 4th and 3rd championship medals.
Worked in electrical business.

Glenn Cockerill: 1985-93
Midfield. 358 apps. 32 goals – Played for Lincoln, Swindon & Sheffield Utd before joining Saints. Many appearances as Captain.
Went on to play for Orient, Fulham & Brentford. Managed Woking and Winchester (briefly).

Norman Dean: 1961-66
Forward. 20 apps, 11 goals – Initially joined from Corby Town as an amateur and following a prolific scoring record in the reserves made his debut in 1963. Scored a hat-trick against Pompey in a 1966 5-2 victory! Moved to Cardiff, where he scored in Europe against Moscow Torpedo and Hamburg and then to Barnsley but a broken leg eventually bought his career to an end.

Mick Earles: 1973-75
Defender. 8 apps – Invited from Ireland for a trial and signed pro in 1973. Made debut at Anfield but a broken leg cut short his progress. Made a brief comeback with Aldershot before retiring at the age of 24.

Hughie Fisher:1966-75.
Midfield. 366 apps. 11 goals – Signed from Blackpool by Ted Bates after he starred in a 5-1 win at The Dell! 1st team regular in the no.4 shirt for many years but unused sub in the cup winning side. Did get a Wembley appearance when he came on in the Charity Shield against Liverpool. Played briefly in the USA and managed Southport before moving back South. Recently retired from the brewery trade.

Tony Godfrey: 1958-66.
Goalkeeper. 149 apps – Signed by Ted Bates from Basingstoke. Also played for Rochdale and Aldershot. Coaching roles at Fleet and Basingstoke. Subsequently worked in building trade.

Tommy Hare: 1963-66.
Defender 13 apps. One of the many Scotsman employed by Saints during the 60’s and 70’s. Moved to Luton in 1967 following David Webb’s arrival followed by a spell at Workington. An extensive non-league career ensued before settling back in Southampton.

Dennis Hollywood: 1962-72.
Defender 266 apps, 4 goals – Although born in Glasgow he joined as an apprentice. Fierce tackling full-back. 1 appearance for Scotland u23’s. Moved to Blackpool but soon moved back to Southampton when offered employment at the docks.

David Hughes: 1991-2000
Midfielder. 64 apps, 3 goals – ‘Box to box’ player who made his full debut in 1994 under Alan Ball but injuries blighted a promising career with 2 broken legs, back problems, fractured ribs. A knee injury suffered in pre-season 2000 marked the end of his Saints career.
Moved to Eastleigh for whom he played over 250 times with brief period as player manager.

Wes Maughan: 1958-62
Forward. 7 apps, 1 goal. Discovered by Ted Bates while playing in a Hampshire Youth Cup tie in the Isle of Wight. Prolific scorer in the reserves but rarely played in first team. Moved to Reading before playing for many years in non-league for several clubs.

Lawrie McMenemy: 1973-85
The man who bought the FA Cup top Southampton. Joined as ‘manager designate’ to Ted Bates and despite relegation to Division 2 soon bought the good times back with the cup win and promotion in 1978. Made a reputation out of getting the most out of ageing players such as Osgood, Channon, McCalliog, Boyer and Ball. Shocked the football world when signing Keegan in 1982.
A move to Sunderland ended badly and subsequently managed England u21 and Northern Ireland. Rejoined Saints as Director of Football but resigned on Rupert Lowe’s arrival.

Brian O’Neil: 1970-74.
Midfield. 166 apps 18 goals – Signed from Burnley and moved onto Huddersfield. Two England u23 appearances. Managed Bideford in Western League before playing for Taunton. Also represented London Saints on tour!!! Lives in Southampton.

Tommy Widdrington: 1990-96.
Midfield. 93 apps, 3 goals. An energetic midfielder and regular in the side throughout the mid 90’s (did Matty’s legwork). Graeme Souness sold him to Grimsby in 1996. Went on to play for Port Vale, Hartlepool and Macclesfield before joining Salisbury where Nick Holmes eventually appointed him first team coach. Now at Southend where he is assistant to Paul Sturrock.
