The LSSC boat comes in

The LSSC boat comes in

Wednesday, June 28, 2006

Dave Thomas, skipper of London Saints cricket club, has received an email and photos from the Hikkaduwa Area Relief Fund (HARF) in Sri Lanka confirming that the fishing boat we bought has now been handed over to a Sri Lankan family.

LSSC raised £8,000 for charitable purposes to tie in with its cricket tour to Sri Lanka in January. Some £2,000 went on buying the boat and engine, with more funds donated to sports facilities at Camp Coconut and to supporting local children through school.

The email from HARF reads: "Dear Dave, hope you are well. I have attached photographs of the fisherman and his family who received the London Saints Golden Duck boat. His name is K.P. Chandra Kumara from the village of Rathgama who lost both his house and boat in the tsunami.

"I also have a signed confirmation receipt. I will also save the photographs on to a disk and post them to you with the receipt. Please advise me to which address you wish them to be sent.

"Once again many thanks for you generous donation - it has made an immense difference to Chandra and his family.
