On the morning of the match Saints captain Ray Betts was faced with 5 cry offs and 2 of the remaining 4 players claiming to be injured. Fortunately Colin’s bad back and Billy’s right hand both passed a late fitness tests (real athletes these).
However, London Saints pool team overcome the odds to stay on course for the club’s first ever league and cup double. Tom “Trigger” Henson saved the day by giving up 2 hours of work in his Black Cab to come and make up the required 5 minimum players and also turned in 2 very impressive frames; winning both against good opposition.
A great performance by Billy Bower in the singles and the usual steady game by Postie Dave set us up for a flattering 6-3 win and a semi final date with Sheffield Wednesday.
Despite this success, questions marks hand over the Skipper’s place in the team after suffering a whitewash in his singles and relying on his partners in winning his doubles.
Well done to the valiant 5 (or 4 plus Reg) and roll on Sheffield Wednesday in the Semi’s – maybe with a full squad!
