Despite only being able to field a team of 5, London Saints cruised to victory amid amazing scenes at the Coach & Horses in Fleet Street last night.
Captain Reg won a tight opening frame to ease media speculation on his position followed by Billy easily winning the 2nd frame.
With the rest of the team downstairs at the bar, Keith Richardson proceeded to produce the first 8 ball clear up, straight from the break, by a London Saint for many years. It deserved a bigger audience.
Up next, Colin Riley against their captain Mike Peacock. After another fairly close game Colin doubled the black into the middle pocket and then proceedings turned into a right old bunfight!
The Sheff Wed captain took a flying scissor kick at the waiting table of food, sending the table a foot into the air, somehow it landed back on the ground in one piece but with the food a bit mixed up and the crowd looking on in stunned silence. Mike then left the room but he did return later to apologise. Now 4-0 up with one frame to win Garry Psycho proceeded to blow the chance to finish them off with a 5 - 0 whitewash.
With only 5 players, we were able to take advantage of the league’s new rule where a team with only 5 players can draw a player from the 5 players to play twice. Our luck changed with in form Billy’s name being drawn. He did not disappoint and won the 6th frame to give us a 5 – 1 victory.
The final will be against West Brom at a date and venue to be agreed hopefully within the next couple of weeks. I will announce the date and venue as soon as it is confirmed and hopefully we can get a few supporters along to witness the first ever league and cup double by a London Saints team and make it a night to remember.
