After struggling to get a team together and the possibility of withdrawing from the darts league, London Saints scraped together a depleted team for our first game in the Third Division of the Apfscil league.
Nick the captain gets three hardy Saints – Galvin, Neil and John to the Lord Burleigh on Thursday night to play Chester. Chester were also one short so names were drawn to decide the singles and doubles. Chester quickly built up a 5 – 1 lead.
Saints had to win all their remaining singles to stay in the match. Nick lead from the front with a captain’s performance and Neil made some high scores to level the match 5 - 5. It was all on the last game - the team 801.
Saints eventually got to a double 1 to win the match. Not the best double to finish on but up steps John who had already finished on a double 1 to win the match.
So a good if unexpected start. We now need to more good players to push on and may be get promoted. Sounds a bit like George.
Fancy a game? We could clearly do with more players! As Nick Head says, amyone who owns a set of darts automatically qualifies - contact John Smith or Nick Head: details in member's section
