Algerian midfielder Djamel Belmadi looks set to sign a new one-year deal with Saints.
The 28-year-old moved to St Mary's from Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad last season but had a frustrating debut campaign with the club because of fitness problems.
He only featured in 21 Championship games as a result, scoring three goals in that time, but boss George Burley saw enough to offer him a new deal at the end of last season.
Burley stated, "Djamel's agent has spoken to the chairman and agreed a new contract."
"He is a quality player who was inhibited by injuries last season, but he will give us good alternatives."
It is also hoped Saints stalwart Matt Oakley will sign his one-year deal, despite holding out for a longer contract.
Meanwhile teenage defender Craig Richards has agreed to a rolling contract to facilitate his recovery from an ankle injury.
