Preston travel details

Friday, October 3, 2008

Overnight option
For those who are unaware there are serious problems with our railways in getting to Preston on 1st November. A suggestion was to travel up Friday (31st) evening and stay in Lancaster (15 minutes past Preston).

Virgin Trains have confirmed that we can travel on the 1646 on the Friday evening. What they will not confirm as yet is the 1753 return (due to the engineering works). They will not let me book anything until the return journey is free of restrictions. I have to check the availability on a weekly basis. There are other options to get back via Manchester/Stockport/Leeds, so I am sure we will be OK.

Friday 31st October
Euston depart 1646
Lancaster arrive: 1933

Saturday 1 November
Preston depart: 1753*
Euston arrive: 2304
Fare: £32.00

Saturday option
There are options on the Saturday leaving Euston at 0853 or 0909 with changes at Manchester or Stockport and (if lucky) you could get into Preston by 1304. It would be the 1753 back from Preston. As above, Virgin will not allow any group booking until nearer the date.
Fare: £30.00

I know there was a big take up for the Friday night option and this is the one I would recommend, especially as the overnight fare is quite reasonable. If there are sufficient numbers for a day trip as well, then we will do it.

The train times may change, so key an eye on our web or check with me.

Even though I cannot book anything at the moment it would be good if people could reconfirm their intentions please asap.

Please take THURSDAY 23rd OCTOBER as the deadline for bookings.
