Nigel Pearson has signed his second centre-back on loan this week.
The deal to sign 36 year old Sheffield United defender Chris Lucketti was completed just minutes ahead of the Football League loan deadline.
The transfer had looked in doubt when Lucketti's wife was admitted to hospital after falling ill.
But the deal eventually went through and Saints boss Nigel Pearson said: "Chris is a strong character who knows this division inside out."
Lucketti will not be in the squad to face Cardiff tomorrow as he will stay with his wife as she recovers from an operation. He will join up with the squad next week.
