Chris Makin has been forced to follow Southampton team-mate Claus Lundekvam into retirement after failing to shake off his injury problems.
The 34-year-old full-back has not played since September due to a hip complaint and, on the advice from his doctor, has now decided to hang up his boots.
Makin began his career at Oldham and enjoyed successful spells at Sunderland and Ipswich before joining Saints from Reading in 2006.
