Kelvin Davis is relishing the chance of a fresh start with Saints after enduring a miserable season with Sunderland, he told saintsfc.co.uk today
Davis leapt at the chance to join Southampton. He said: "It was a difficult season for everyone last year - players, staff and supporters. I was not looking for a move and I would not have joined just any club but it was the fact it was Southampton which made it so tempting.
"It was a chance to work with goalkeeping coach Malcolm Webster once again. I worked with him at Luton and Ipswich and it was an opportunity to play under George Burley.
"And everything about the club impressed me. I certainly would not have come here if I did not think we had a great chance of winning promotion.
"In fact, in my contract I wanted to insert the words 'When' we win promotion rather than 'if'.
"Looking at the manager here and the players he has got and the way he intends to strengthen further then I think we have a great chance."
