Cranie goes for £150k - but we get John Gorman!
Wednesday, June 27, 2007
Portsmouth have agreed £150,000 compensation with Saints over the signing of defender Martin Cranie. Cranie, 20, became boss Harry Redknapp’s fourth summer buy after signing a three-year contract on Tuesday. The fee would have been decided at tribunal had the two clubs not reached a settlement. What a steal - I saw Cranie play for Yeovil last season and again at Derby away in the play-offs and he is now a strong, determined lad who can play at right back or centre-half. Another huge loss to Saints...
To worsen the blow, John Gorman (the one who ran off with Glenn Hoddle to a bigger club) was today appointed first team coach by Burley following Glynn Snodin’s move to West Ham. Gorman, 57, who joined Saints as chief scout last month, has taken on the role on a caretaker basis while George Burley looks for a permanent successor. Burley said: “We are lucky to have someone of John’s experience to step in.” Good grief.
