The Saints boss is convinced that his side's good disciplinary record can be a key factor in the promotion race.
Saints travel to Preston tonight knowing they can jump back up to fifth place with a victory. But they would drop out of the Championship play-off places if Preston beat them in the Sky-televised clash at Deepdale (8pm).
Saints' disciplinary record is among the best of the top teams.
"Those that keep their discipline stand a better chance of going up." said Burley.
Burley also called on the team to be tighter at the back.
"We have scored plenty of goals away from home, but we've also conceded some - so we have to be tighter at the back," said Burley.
New loan signing, Danny Guthrie is included in the squad.
