Svensson plays a half as Saints cruise

Tuesday, July 18, 2006

Michael Svensson came through the first half of tonight's friendly unscathed as Saints comfortably overcame their Swedish 3rd Division hosts, 4-0.

McGoldrick was suffering a minor illness while Surman, Baird and Bale all missed the match through minor knocks.

Dexter Blackstock and Djamel Belmadi gave Saints a 2-0 advantage at the break with Bradley Wright-Phillips and Gregor Rasiak completing the scoring in the second half.

Saints finished the match with 10 men as Jermaine Wright left the field with a tight hamstring after Saints had used up all their substitutes.

Saints face stronger opposition on Thursday as they visit Svensson's old club, Halmstaad.

Team: Miller, Ostlund, Svensson (Cranie 45), Lundekvam, Higginbottom, Belmadi (Gillett 71), Wright, Prutton (Sarmiento 58), Dyer, Wright-Phillips (Rasiak 75), Blackstock (Best 45).
