Saints round off Swedish trip in style

Thursday, July 20, 2006

Saints rounded off their pre-season Swedish with an encouraging 4-2 defeat of top flight side, Halmstaad.

The significant changes from Tuesday’s line-up saw Chris Baird and Danny Higginbottom as the centre back pairing and Gareth Bale restored to left-back. Gregor Rasiak partnered Bradley Wright-Phillips in attack. Jermaine Wright skippered the side.

Team: Miller, Ostlund (Cranie 81), Baird, Higginbottom, Bale, Dyer, Wright, Prutton (Surman 45), Belmadi (Sarmiento 65), Rasiak (Blackstock 45), Wright-Phillips (McGoldrick 87).

Bradley-Wright Phillips once again gave Saints an early lead following good work from Nathan Dyer.

The advantage was doubled with an own-goal, once again from a Dyer cross.

Halmstaad pulled a goal back on half-time. They went onto equalise soon after the restart.

Half-time sub Dexter Blackstock scored twice, the second a penalty, in the second half to complete the victory.
