Killen gave the Scottish Premier League champions a 26th-minute lead when he finished low, left-footed, following good work by Scott McDonald.
And Barry Robson doubled the advantage emphatically from the penalty spot in the 67th minute after Georgios Samaras - who earlier this week sealed a permanent move from Manchester City - had been brought down in the box by Andrew Surman.
Samaras went close to a third goal before former Saints favourite Matthew Le Tissier came on in the 76th minute, to the delight of the majority of the crowd of 18,664.
Teams: Saints: Davis, James, Thomas (Svensson 45), Perry (Lundekvam 83), Surman, Schneiderlin (Wotton 63), Gillett (Le Tissier 76), Lallana (Kaland 68), Wright-Phillips, Holmes (Mills 55), McGoldrick (Euell 63).
