London Saints

Cricket lovely cricket!

The 2011 London Saints’ cricket season is all bit upon us but before we get down to the business of forthcoming battles we should close the door on 2010’s ground breaking year.

The great and the good of London Saints’ cricket recently gathered at a Central London Sri Lankan restaurant for a night of splendid food, drink, speeches and general frivolity as the silverware was handed out. As ever, the night was well organised by skipper DT with the winners as follows-

Champagne Moment
What a momentous day at Lords last June. The votes for the most sought after of trophies went comprehensively to Reggie Betts and we all know why but in case you need reminding, there’s always You Tube – just click here.

The Duck Trophy
Surely the character of London Saints Cricket could not be better displayed than with this most sought after of trophies. Tony Grimes (aka Clive Dunn) received the trophy from the 2009 winner, Finn Quinn. Tony is approximately 75 years older than his predecessor and accepted the award with an excellent speech (See London Saints Facebook site).

Player of the Year
All of those present at last year’s speech by John Griffiths will remember a tearful and emotional speech earning him the latest in a long line of nicknames. Trevor Mayhew speech threatened to follow suit as he took the votes for 2010 by a landslide in a blatant attempt by his less talented team mates to persuade him to change his retirement plans. Anyway if he does hold firm with his decision to hang up his box we won’t have to put up with anymore exhaustingly long acceptance speeches.

Lord Lucan bought along his new video toy allowing us to view the highlights of the night on Facebook. Unfortunately the old duffer forgot to take any snaps leaving this here article with older pics which at least makes us look younger!
